The Nigerian military, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, has neutralised more than 30 fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in a series of precision air interdiction missions in the Lake Chad region of Borno State.
Security sources disclosed that the operation followed credible Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) reports indicating heightened terrorist logistics activity along waterways around the Kaniram Island axis.
An ISR platform deployed to the area confirmed the presence of about 31 boats scattered along the riverbank, alongside human activity consistent with ISWAP elements coordinating movement and supply operations.
Upon positive identification, the Air Component conducted precision strikes in accordance with established Rules of Engagement and targeting protocols. The initial strike disrupted the террористs’ logistics hub, destroying several boats used for transportation and supply across the waterways.
Subsequent ISR monitoring revealed attempts by the fighters to regroup within nearby vegetation, prompting follow-on strikes. A second strike targeted a cluster of about eight fighters, neutralising them, while others were seen withdrawing into concealed positions.
A third strike was later executed on another group of approximately 15 fighters hiding under dense foliage, resulting in their elimination. Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) indicated significant losses, with surviving elements dispersing from nearby hideouts.
In a related operation at Sowolwolo, air assets engaged and neutralised nine additional fighters. Remaining elements reportedly fled in disarray, suggesting a breakdown in coordination and command structure.
Military authorities stated that the operation underscores their commitment to precision targeting aimed at minimising collateral damage while maximising impact on террорист elements.
They further assured that ISR missions and offensive air operations would continue in synergy with ground forces to consolidate gains and deny insurgents freedom of movement across the theatre.
The Armed Forces reaffirmed their resolve to sustain air superiority and contribute decisively to restoring peace and stability in the North-East region.
