The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly condemned the killing of Mali’s Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Sadio Camara, describing the incident as tragic and destabilising for the West African region.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa said Nigeria expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, the Malian Armed Forces, and the government and people of Mali following the terrorist attacks of April 25.

The government noted that the killing comes at a critical time for Mali, stressing that such acts of violence highlight the fragility of peace and the urgent need for stronger regional cooperation. Nigeria reaffirmed its solidarity with Mali, citing shared African values of unity, resilience, and collective security.

Abuja also condemned recent terrorist attacks across Mali that have led to loss of lives and destruction of property, warning that such actions threaten national stability and undermine peaceful coexistence.

The statement emphasized that terrorism remains a common enemy requiring coordinated international efforts, sustained collaboration, and a unified resolve to confront.

Nigeria further reiterated its commitment to supporting Mali in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity, while working with regional and global partners to combat terrorism and promote stability across the Sahel and the wider West African sub-region.

The government called for strengthened solidarity among nations, stressing that lasting peace can only be achieved through mutual respect, collective security, and shared responsibility.
