The Commander, Corps of Engineers (CCE), Major General ST Shafaru, has charged newly promoted senior officers of the Nigerian Army Engineers to recommit themselves to service and leadership following their elevation in rank.
The charge was delivered during the investiture ceremony of officers promoted from Major to Lieutenant Colonel, held at the Sappers Officers’ Mess, Bonny Cantonment, Lagos.
In a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Maidawa, Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Nigerian Army Engineers, the Chief Sapper urged the officers to remain focused and committed to their professional growth. He emphasized the importance of striving for higher responsibilities, reminding them that promotion comes with increased expectations.
“Work hard towards the next substantive rank; never rest on your oars,” Major General Shafaru stated. “To whom much is given, much is expected. Your real command starts now.”
He further stressed the need for the officers to prioritize the welfare of their troops and maintain strong unit cohesion, noting that effective leadership is rooted in responsibility and care for subordinates.
The Commander also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his strategic guidance and continued support to the Nigerian Army Engineers.
In his remarks, the Chief of Staff, Headquarters Nigerian Army Engineers, Brigadier General AM Jungudo, advised the newly promoted officers to see their elevation not merely as a ceremonial achievement but as recognition of their dedication and service.
He encouraged them to invest in the development and mentorship of junior officers under their command.
Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, Lieutenant Colonel AA Johnson expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for the promotion and commended the CCE for his leadership and guidance.
The officers decorated during the ceremony included Lieutenant Colonels AA Johnson, M Maidawa, BO Oni, and T Usman.
The event featured the decoration of the officers with their new rank insignia, goodwill messages from senior officers, and a group photograph session. It was attended by serving and retired military personnel, family members, invited guests, and members of the Sapper community.
