The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has promoted 38 senior officers to the rank of Wing Commander, reinforcing its leadership structure and operational readiness amid evolving security challenges across the country.

The decoration ceremony, held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the NAF Officers’ Mess in Abuja, marked a significant milestone in the careers of the newly elevated officers. The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal SK Aneke, described the promotion as a recognition of discipline, professionalism, and sustained excellence in service.

Represented by the Chief of Administration at Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal AA Martins, the CAS noted that the officers had consistently demonstrated strong leadership qualities, sound judgment, and commitment to mission success. He said their elevation reflects their readiness to assume higher responsibilities within the Service.

Air Marshal Aneke emphasised that the dynamic nature of modern security threats demands officers who are adaptable, decisive, and mission-focused.

He expressed confidence that the new Wing Commanders would enhance command effectiveness, sustain ongoing air operations, and strengthen combat readiness across various operational theatres.

He further reminded the officers that leadership goes beyond rank, urging them to lead with integrity, courage, and fairness while upholding the core values of the Nigerian Air Force.

Earlier in his remarks, the Commander, Headquarters NAF Camp Abuja, Air Commodore Imoke, charged the officers to embrace their new responsibilities with humility and professionalism. He described the promotion as both an achievement and a call to greater accountability and service to the nation.

The ceremony attracted senior military officers, family members, and well-wishers, highlighting the importance of the promotion in strengthening the Nigerian Air Force’s leadership cadre and advancing its operational effectiveness.
