The Defence Headquarters has confirmed death of four personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria following a fierce confrontation with terrorist elements in Borno State.
In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, the military disclosed that the casualties occurred during an intense engagement at Benisheikh in Kaga Local Government Area.
According to the statement, two officers and two soldiers were killed in action while courageously confronting the insurgents, paying what was described as the “ultimate sacrifice” in defence of the nation and its citizens.
Among those involved in the operation was the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General O.O. Braimah, whose leadership and bravery under fire were commended. The military noted that his actions exemplified the highest standards and traditions of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The Armed Forces expressed deep sorrow over the loss, extending condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the fallen personnel. It emphasised that their sacrifice would remain a lasting part of the nation’s military history.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, also assured grieving families of the military’s support, describing the deceased as extraordinary Nigerians who stood in defence of the country.
The Defence Headquarters further reassured citizens that ongoing military operations would not be deterred by the loss, but would instead be intensified in honour of the fallen heroes.
