The Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Command, has arrested over 10 suspects linked to kidnapping, armed robbery, and trafficking, while recovering three AK-47 rifles and a total of 55 rounds of live ammunition in a series of intelligence-led operations across the state, Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi has disclosed.
Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, disclosed this during the Command’s first quarter press briefing in Asaba, highlighting achievements from February to date.
According to him, the Command’s sustained intelligence-driven operations have made Delta “hot for criminals,” leading to multiple successful interventions across the state.
The CP revealed that operatives arrested five suspected kidnappers in separate operations across Ughelli and other parts of the state, recovering an AK-47 rifle and 36 rounds of live ammunition.
In another operation, police in collaboration with the military rescued two kidnapped victims after a gun battle with suspects along the Obulu-Uku axis. Two suspects were neutralised, while officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of ammunition, and N4.5 million ransom, which has since been returned to the victims.
Similarly, a coordinated operation in Issele-Uku led to the rescue of three kidnapped victims, the arrest of a suspect, and the recovery of another AK-47 rifle.
The Command also recorded success against armed robbery, arresting two suspects linked to burglary and robbery incidents in Asaba and Okpanam. Recovered items include 17 mobile phones and laptops believed to have been stolen from victims. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.
In a major breakthrough, the police arrested two suspects linked to a human trafficking and organ harvesting syndicate. The case involved a 19-year-old victim who was trafficked to Ivory Coast for prostitution and later discovered her womb had been removed without consent.
The suspects are currently in custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Operatives also intercepted suspected cocaine concealed inside energy-saving bulbs along the Onicha-Ugbo/Ewohimi road. About 490 grams of the substance, alongside other illicit drugs, were recovered from a commercial vehicle en route to Abuja.
Providing updates on prosecution, Oyeniyi said the Command has charged 455 cases to court since January 2026, with 205 cases already concluded, while 250 remain ongoing across courts in the state.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, and accountability, warning that officers found wanting would face sanctions.
He also raised concerns over rising drug abuse and the activities of land grabbers, stressing that while the police would not interfere in civil disputes, it would not tolerate violence or breakdown of law and order.
Oyeniyi called on residents to continue supporting the police with credible intelligence, assuring that the Command would sustain efforts to ensure safety and security across Delta State.
