The Honourable Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), has called for the effective integration of human and technical intelligence to produce actionable outcomes that will enable rapid response by troops in the field as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.
Speaking during a high-level meeting with intelligence and security stakeholders at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja on Thursday, the Defence Minister stressed the urgent need for stronger collaboration and coordination among security and intelligence agencies to tackle the country’s evolving security challenges.
Gen. Musa said Nigeria’s current security situation demands a unified and intelligence-driven approach, particularly in the face of asymmetric warfare, where threats are often concealed and require timely, credible, and well-coordinated intelligence to neutralise.
He noted that while security agencies have made significant progress in addressing threats across the country, fragmented efforts and operating in silos have continued to limit overall effectiveness.
According to him, integrating both human intelligence and technical intelligence is critical to generating actionable information that will support swift operational decisions and rapid troop response in the field.
“We have been operating in silos for too long. It is time to come together, harness our collective intelligence, and work as a unified team to support our troops and safeguard the nation,” he said.
The Minister also reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for enhanced joint action across all security institutions, emphasizing that every agency and parastatal has a strategic role to play in ensuring national security.
He further urged Nigerians to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, stressing that public participation remains vital in the fight against insecurity.
Describing the meeting as the first of its kind at the Ministry of Defence, Gen. Musa said it marks the beginning of a more coordinated intelligence framework aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening national security across the country.
