Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Operation Hadin Kai have recovered a heavy weapon and ammunition following a successful engagement with terrorists in Borno State.
Security sources disclosed that the recovery was made on April 21, 2026, during follow-up exploitation operations in Nanewa village. The troops had earlier engaged and neutralised several terrorists in a fierce firefight in the area.
According to the sources, while conducting a mop-up operation along the withdrawal route of the fleeing insurgents, the troops discovered an anti-aircraft machine gun and several rounds of 7.62×54mm ammunition believed to have been abandoned during the encounter.
Further findings revealed traces of blood along the escape route, suggesting that some of the terrorists sustained injuries during the clash.
Military authorities confirmed that all recovered weapons and items have been secured for further analysis and proper documentation, as efforts continue to dismantle terrorist networks in the region.
