The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s resolve to decisively defeat all security threats confronting the nation, emphasizing the importance of sustained public support in achieving lasting peace.

General Shaibu made this known on Friday, 10 April 2026, during an operational visit to Yobe State, where he was received by Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport, Damaturu. The visit, according to a statement by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, was aimed at boosting troop morale and assessing the prevailing security situation in the region.

During the visit, the COAS acknowledged recent operational challenges, including attacks on troop positions, but assured that the Nigerian Army remains resolute and undeterred in fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.

He noted that ongoing adjustments in operational strategies are being implemented to counter emerging threats and consolidate gains across various theatres of operation.

General Shaibu stressed that despite the evolving nature of security challenges nationwide, the Army would continue to stand firm in confronting terrorism and other threats. He also called on state governments to strengthen their support for troops engaged in frontline duties.

The Army Chief commended the Government and people of Yobe State for their continued cooperation, describing it as critical to achieving sustained operational success.

Meanwhile, at the Headquarters, Sector 2 Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI in Damaturu, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, accompanied by Senator Ali Ndume, paid a condolence visit to the COAS and the Nigerian Army over the loss of personnel in recent encounters with terrorists. Governor Zulum pledged to develop additional strategies to support security agencies in tackling the dynamic security challenges.

General Shaibu also addressed troops at the Sector headquarters, charging them to remain aggressive and relentless in the fight against terrorism in honour of fallen comrades and in pursuit of enduring peace.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, who represented the Yobe State Governor, commended the Nigerian Army for its critical role in restoring peace in troubled regions. He praised the troops’ resilience and dedication, noting that despite operational pressures, they have continued to record significant successes. He also offered prayers for fallen heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
