Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, have successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks on military locations in Konduga, Marte, Jakana and Mainok in Borno State.
In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the attacks occurred between about 10:30 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. when insurgents attempted to overrun troops’ positions in the affected locations.
According to the statement, the terrorists were met with stiff resistance from alert troops who held their defensive positions despite the intensity of the assaults.
Troops subsequently launched coordinated counter-attacks, executing simultaneous flanking manoeuvres with reinforcement teams from Sectors 1 and 2, forcing the attackers into disorganised retreats.
The military disclosed that several insurgent leaders, including key commanders known as Amirs, were neutralised during the fierce engagements, while many other fighters were eliminated.
Although some structures within the military locations were damaged during the firefights, the military confirmed that all bases remain firmly under the control of Operation Hadin Kai troops.
The air component of the operation also carried out multiple precision air strikes overnight on fleeing terrorists and identified hostile positions, neutralising more insurgents and significantly degrading their fighting capability.
Ground forces are currently conducting exploitation operations across the affected areas, with the recovery of terrorist corpses, weapons and other combat equipment ongoing.
However, the military said a number of soldiers paid the supreme price during the engagements, including an officer who died while leading his troops from the front.
Operation Hadin Kai noted that the failed attacks highlight the increasing desperation of terrorist elements under sustained pressure from ongoing military operations across the theatre.
