Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, have foiled an abduction attempt and successfully rescued three kidnapped civilians during a swift response operation in the Bama axis of Borno State.

The successful rescue mission followed a fighting patrol conducted on Sunday, March 29, 2026, during which troops acted on credible intelligence that terrorists had abducted three local residents who had gone into the bush to fetch firewood in the general area of BOCOBS.

According to a press statement issued by Lieutenant Sani Abubakar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 21 Special Armoured Brigade, Bama, the troops moved immediately after receiving the intelligence report.

He said a Response Force Team (RFT), made up of troops from 202 Battalion, elements of the Garrison, and volunteer forces, was swiftly mobilised to the location of the incident.

“On arrival, the Response Force Team made contact with the terrorists and engaged them decisively, forcing the insurgents to flee in disarray in different directions due to superior firepower,” the statement said.

Following the firefight, troops exploited the area and conducted a thorough sweep, leading to the successful rescue of the three abducted victims, all of whom were recovered unharmed.

In the course of the operation, security forces also recovered one AK-47 rifle magazine and 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

The military described the operation as another demonstration of the vigilance, courage, and rapid response capability of troops of Operation Hadin Kai in denying terrorists freedom of action and ensuring the safety of civilians in the North-East.

The latest development underscores the sustained efforts of troops and allied volunteer forces in countering insurgent activities and protecting vulnerable communities across the theatre of operations.
