Troops of the 35 Artillery Brigade have intercepted 296 large wraps of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa along the Abeokuta–Igboora Road in Ogun State.

The interception, which took place at about 4:30 a.m. on 1 March 2026, followed credible intelligence on the planned movement of illicit drugs within the area.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Major Idereghi Samuel Akari, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 35 Artillery Brigade, the troops swiftly mobilised to the location based on a strategic tip-off.

During the operation, they intercepted an unregistered motorcycle conveying three massive sacks containing 296 large wraps of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as Indian hemp.

According to the statement, the suspect abandoned the motorcycle and fled into a nearby dense bush under the cover of darkness on sighting the troops.

The recovered items have since been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, for further investigation and necessary action.

The Brigade reiterated its determination to rid Ogun State of drug trafficking and other criminal activities. It warned individuals involved in illicit drug trade and related crimes to desist and engage in lawful ventures or face the full weight of the law.

The 35 Artillery Brigade also reassured residents of Ogun State of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, maintaining a robust security presence, and ensuring that criminal elements do not operate with impunity.
