Security opetatives has foiled an attempted attack by suspected armed terrorists on Ruwan Dorowa District, reinforcing ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property across Zamfara state.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the Command disclosed that the operation was carried out following credible intelligence indicating that a large number of terrorists were advancing toward the community through the Maru Local Government Area axis.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on March 1, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., when the assailants reportedly planned to launch an attack on residents who were observing Isha’i congregational prayers.
“Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised the Division’s strike force in collaboration with military personnel to the affected area,” the statement said.
It added that upon sighting the joint security team, the terrorists engaged operatives in a fierce gun duel. However, they were decisively repelled due to the superior firepower and coordinated response of the combined forces.
The suspects reportedly fled into surrounding bushes with suspected gunshot injuries, while security operatives have since intensified patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of residents.
The Command reassured the public of its commitment to tackling criminal activities and urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
“The Zamfara State Police Command remains resolute in its determination to rid the State of criminal elements,” the statement added.
