Enugu — The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, on Monday led officers and men of the command in the Day One activities of the National Police Day 2026 celebration, with a series of community-focused programmes across the state.

The activities commenced with a sanitation and clean-up exercise at Old Park/Holy Ghost, widely regarded as the commercial nerve centre of Enugu, the Enugu State capital.

As part of the day’s events, the command also organised a free medical outreach for members of the public. The outreach featured health talks, medical counselling, blood pressure checks, electrocardiogram (ECG) tests, blood sugar screening, Hepatitis B and C testing, eye examinations, retroviral screening, and free drug administration.

In furtherance of its community policing drive, the command simultaneously held town hall meetings across the five Area Commands in the state under the theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust for Effective Policing.”

CP Giwa personally attended the session organised by the Enugu Area Command at Castle Majestic Hotel, Ogui, Enugu, where he addressed and engaged stakeholders on the importance of collaboration between the police and residents in strengthening security and public trust.

The Enugu State Police Command said the National Police Day activities will continue on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, with a walkathon across major streets in the Enugu metropolis.

The Commissioner of Police commended the people of Enugu State for turning out in large numbers to participate in the various events and urged them to sustain their support for the police.

He emphasised the need for continued partnership between the public and the police to promote effective policing, stronger community relations, and mutual trust across the state.
