NAF Intensifies Airpower Operations, Destroys Terrorists’ Gun Trucks In Sambisa As CAS Drives Operational Momentum in North East

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its airpower operations in the Northeast as part of efforts to sustain operational momentum against insurgent groups operating in the region.

Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, reaffirmed the service’s commitment to maintaining decisive airpower in support of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts under Operation HADIN KAI.

According to a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Chief of Operations at NAF Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal PN Amadi, visited NAF Base Maiduguri on March 11, 2026, on behalf of the CAS to assess the operational environment and review the base’s readiness for sustained joint operations.

During the visit, the Air Component and the 105 Composite Group presented operational and base defence briefings highlighting the base’s preparedness and resilience in carrying out assigned missions.

Air Marshal Aneke stated that the Nigerian Air Force remains focused on maintaining a persistent air presence and delivering precision strikes to support ground forces in maintaining operational superiority across the theatre.

As part of efforts to strengthen joint operations, Air Vice Marshal Amadi also visited the Headquarters of the Theatre Command, Operation HADIN KAI, where he reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to close coordination with ground troops to achieve lasting security outcomes.

“Our coordinated air-ground operations continue to shape the battlespace, constrain hostile elements, and reinforce the momentum required to secure lasting peace and stability in the region,” the CAS said.

The operational engagements coincided with precision air strikes conducted in the Sambisa general area on March 11, 2026. The operation, which followed credible intelligence and sustained aerial surveillance, resulted in the destruction of four hostile gun trucks and other logistics assets belonging to insurgent elements.

Military sources said the strikes significantly disrupted the mobility and operational capability of the terrorists in the area, further demonstrating the effectiveness of intelligence-driven airpower in ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

Earlier, the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal MC Ekwueme, also visited NAF Base Maiduguri where he interacted with personnel, boosting their morale and reaffirming the Air Force’s commitment to operational excellence.

The Nigerian Air Force reiterated its resolve to dominate the air domain, protect civilian populations, and continue supporting joint military operations aimed at consolidating security gains and restoring lasting peace in the Northeast.
