The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has presented cheques worth ₦2,435,421,584.11 to 1,075 beneficiaries and next-of-kins of deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance Scheme and the IGP Family Welfare Scheme.
The cheque presentation, held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, covered outstanding and current policy years including 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, 2024/2025, and 2025/2026.
Speaking during the ceremony, the IGP Disu described the event as his first official cheque presentation to families of deceased officers since assuming office as the 23rd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, stressing that the welfare of personnel remains a major priority of his administration.
According to him, the disbursement not only reflects the Force’s commitment to supporting the families of officers who died in active service, but also includes the recovery of insurance obligations that had remained unpaid for years.
He said the presentation was more than a financial exercise, noting that it was a solemn recognition of the courage, dedication, and supreme sacrifice of officers who laid down their lives in service to the nation.
Addressing the widows, children, parents, and relatives of the fallen officers, the IGP extended his condolences, assuring them that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to stand by the families left behind.
He reaffirmed that under his leadership, the Force would intensify efforts to strengthen welfare systems, improve administrative efficiency, eliminate delays in claims processing, and ensure timely and transparent delivery of benefits to officers and their families.
The police boss also disclosed plans to deploy modern technology to improve record management, streamline claims processing, and promote accountability in the administration of welfare services across the Force.
He commended officers of the Force Insurance Unit for their dedication in processing the claims and appreciated the insurance companies involved for fulfilling their obligations.
The IGP further thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Police Affairs, and the Ministry of Police Affairs for their continued support and partnership in advancing the welfare of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
He urged officers and stakeholders to remain committed to the values of duty, sacrifice, integrity, and service to the nation, saying the lives of the fallen officers should continue to inspire all personnel in the task of building a safer and more secure Nigeria.
