The Federal Government has directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to strictly comply with the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) as part of efforts to strengthen budget credibility, fiscal discipline, and economic stability in the country.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, gave the directive during a courtesy visit by the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) in Abuja, stressing that adherence to the MTEF remains critical for building a coordinated, transparent, and disciplined fiscal environment that supports sustainable economic growth.
Akume noted that the MTEF plays a central role in aligning public spending with national development priorities, ensuring predictability, accountability, and long-term sustainability in the budgeting process.
He said the framework provides a strategic roadmap that enables government institutions to plan effectively, manage resources prudently, and avoid fiscal distortions that could undermine economic reforms.
The SGF further urged MDAs to demonstrate commitment to responsible fiscal management by ensuring strict compliance with approved expenditure limits and policy guidelines.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve to strengthen institutional frameworks that promote transparency, accountability, and efficient service delivery to Nigerians.
Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Mr Victor Chinmerem Muruako, commended President Bola Tinubu’s reform-driven leadership and commitment to fiscal responsibility and public finance management.
Muruako stated that ongoing economic and fiscal reforms by the current administration have provided the necessary support and enabling environment for the commission to effectively discharge its mandate.
He also reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to working closely with relevant stakeholders to deepen fiscal discipline, enhance transparency, and promote sustainable public financial management.
The visit, according to officials, is part of ongoing engagements aimed at strengthening collaboration between government institutions to improve fiscal governance and ensure effective implementation of reform initiatives.
