The All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected a new set of National Working Committee (NWC) members, with Professor Nentawe Yilwatda emerging as the party’s National Chairman at its National Convention held at Eagle Square, Abuja.
Yilwatda will lead the affairs of the ruling party alongside two Deputy National Chairmen — Ali Bukar Dalori for the North and Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye for the South — following their emergence at the well-attended convention.
For the position of National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru was elected, while Professor AbdulKarim Abubakar Kana emerged as Deputy National Secretary. Murtala Aliyu Kankia secured the office of National Legal Adviser, with Uguru Mathew Ofoke elected as National Treasurer. Ambassador Haruna Ginsau was named National Financial Secretary.
Also elected at the convention was Muhammad Sulaiman Argungu, OFR, as National Organising Secretary, while Donatus Enyinnah Nwankpa emerged as National Welfare Secretary. Felix Morka was elected National Publicity Secretary, and Senator Abubakar Maikafi became the party’s National Auditor.
In other key positions, Dr. Mary A. Idele emerged as National Women Leader, while Dayo Isreal was elected National Youth Leader. Aare Durotolu Oyebode Bankole also emerged as the National Leader for Persons with Disabilities.
Further positions filled at the convention include Hammam Adamu Ali Kumo as Deputy National Financial Secretary, Barrister Emeka Okafor as Deputy National Organising Secretary, and Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim as Deputy National Women Leader. Hon. Meseko Durosinmi Josiah was elected Deputy National Publicity Secretary, while Dr. Christopher Michael Akpan emerged as Deputy National Welfare Secretary.
Other deputy officers elected are Mr. Olugbenga Olayemi as Deputy National Auditor, Barrister Ibrahim Salawu as Deputy National Legal Adviser, Engineer Ben Akak as Deputy National Treasurer, and Jamaludeen Kabiru as Deputy National Youth Leader.
The convention also produced National Ex-officio members representing the six geopolitical zones. They include Dr. Opawoye Oluwatoyin Bunmi for North Central, Adamu Jallah for North East, Kano Muhammed Jamu Yusuf for North West, Hon. Ikechukwu Umeh for South East, Mr. Francis Kolokolo for South South, and Hon. Bunmi Orinowo for South West.
The emergence of the new leadership marks a significant step in repositioning the APC ahead of future political engagements, with party stakeholders expressing optimism that the new National Working Committee will strengthen internal cohesion and deepen democratic processes within the ruling party.
