The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reassured citizens of sustained vigilance and proactive security measures across the country in response to evolving geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their potential global implications.
The Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Olatunji Disu, gave the assurance in a statement issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin. He emphasised the Force’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives, property, and maintaining national peace and stability.
According to the statement, while Nigeria remains stable and its internal security situation is firmly under control, the Police have reinforced intelligence-led and proactive policing strategies nationwide.
The Ag. IGP has directed Commissioners of Police in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to heighten surveillance and intelligence gathering. Special attention, he noted, is being given to the North-West, North-East, and North-Central geopolitical zones.
He further instructed state commands to strengthen collaboration with traditional and religious leaders, enhance visibility policing around worship centres, public spaces, and other critical infrastructure, as well as ensure swift response to any attempt by individuals or groups to exploit global developments to incite unrest or sectarian tension.
“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates that Nigeria will not serve as a theatre for foreign conflicts. Any attempt to import external ideological or religious tensions into the country will be met with the full weight of the law,” the statement said.
IGP Disu also called on community leaders nationwide to continue promoting peaceful coexistence and national unity. He urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
The Police boss assured Nigerians that the Force remains resolute, prepared, and fully committed to safeguarding every citizen and maintaining public order at all times.
