Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have repelled a late-night attack by ISWAP terrorists and launched a decisive counter-offensive that led to the killing of 16 insurgents, arrest of suspected logistics suppliers, and rescue of 11 kidnapped victims in Borno State.
The failed assault occurred on February 5, 2026, when ISWAP fighters attempted to overrun the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Auno.
According to the Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba Troops of Sector 1 responded with coordinated firepower and tactical precision, successfully thwarting the attack and forcing the terrorists to retreat.
In a follow-up operation on February 9, 2026, troops, working in synergy with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), pursued the fleeing insurgents along the Komala axis in Konduga Local Government Area up to the Gidan Kaji axis. During the operation, 16 terrorists were neutralised, while several others escaped with severe injuries.
Troops also recovered over 20 bicycles, a cache of weapons, and large quantities of logistics items critical to terrorist operations. In a related development, suspected ISWAP logistics suppliers conveying large quantities of drugs around the Bukarti axis were arrested, further disrupting the group’s supply chain.
On the same day, troops foiled a kidnap attempt along the Buratai–Kamuya road. Two victims, identified as Mallam Idris Adamu and Mallam Muhammadu Safiyanu, were rescued and safely reunited with their families. Additionally, troops responding to a distress call along the Chibok–Damboa axis successfully rescued nine other kidnapped victims.
