Participants of the 55th Pakistan Navy Staff Course have paid a study visit to the Headquarters of the Western Naval Command in Apapa, Lagos, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen professional ties and enhance maritime cooperation with the Nigerian Navy.

The visit, which took place on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, was led by Commodore Mohammed Zahid Zaheer and accompanied by the Pakistan Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Colonel Kamran Mushtaq.

The delegation was received by senior officers of the Command, who provided an overview of the Nigerian Navy’s operational responsibilities within the western maritime domain.

During the engagement, the visiting officers were briefed on the mandate, roles, and operational activities of the Western Naval Command, with emphasis on maritime security operations, counter-piracy initiatives, and inter-agency collaboration aimed at securing Nigeria’s coastal and offshore environment.

As part of the programme, the delegation undertook guided tours of the Falcon Eye and Regional Maritime Awareness Capability Centres, as well as Nigerian Navy Ship KADA. The tours offered insight into Nigeria’s maritime domain awareness framework and surveillance capabilities, highlighting shared priorities in safeguarding regional and international waters.

Speaking during the visit, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha, described the engagement as a valuable platform for professional exchange and mutual learning. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to deepening cooperation with friendly navies in pursuit of maritime security and regional stability.

The study visit further underscores the growing defence and naval relations between Nigeria and Pakistan, particularly in the areas of capacity development, operational cooperation, and the promotion of collective maritime security.
