NAFARL Advances Food Security Agenda, Links Agriculture to National Security — Major General Nicodemus

The Executive Director of Nigerian Army Farms and Ranches Limited (NAFARL), Major General Sinyinah Nicodemus, has reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s food security through strategic agricultural initiatives aligned with the Federal Government’s food policy.

He made this known on Monday, 9 February 2026, during a one-day study visit by participants of the Strategic Management and Policy Studies Course 8/2025 from the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC). The visit formed part of the Centre’s nationwide study tour for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Speaking during the engagement, Major General Nicodemus explained that the study visit, themed “Governance and Economic Policies in a Secured Environment: Nigeria’s Experience,” underscored the critical nexus between security and economic development.

He noted that insecurity discourages investment, disrupts economic activities, and diverts limited resources from development to crisis response, stressing that sustainable economic growth can only thrive in a secure environment.

The NAFARL Executive Director further highlighted the organisation’s efforts to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on food imports through large-scale farming and ranching operations. According to him, agriculture remains a strategic tool not only for economic growth but also for enhancing national stability and security.

Earlier in his remarks, the Team Leader and Consultant for the study tour, Professor Okey Ikechukwu, described the Strategic Management and Policy Studies Course as one of the flagship programmes of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre.

He said the course is designed for senior leaders occupying strategic positions and urged participants to maximise the visit by drawing practical lessons applicable to real-life policy formulation and leadership challenges.

The visit provided participants with firsthand insights into how integrated agricultural initiatives can support national security objectives while driving economic development.
