The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken delivery of all sensitive materials from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the conduct of Saturday’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.

The materials were collected on Thursday at the Old Central Bank premises in Garki, Abuja, in the presence of heavily armed security personnel, representatives of political parties, civil society organisations, journalists, and other key stakeholders who monitored the process.

The sensitive items received include ballot papers, result sheets, and Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices.

Speaking during the exercise, the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Aminu Idris, said the commission deliberately invited stakeholders to witness the handover to ensure transparency and build public confidence in the electoral process.

Mallam Idris assured that INEC remains committed to conducting credible, free, and fair elections across the six Area Councils of the territory. He added that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to guarantee the safe movement of the materials to the various Area Council offices.

He further disclosed that distribution of the materials to the Registration Area Centres would commence on Friday ahead of the polls.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner also appealed to eligible voters in the FCT to come out in large numbers on Saturday to exercise their civic responsibility.
