INEC Reaffirms Position on Results Transmission

The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) clarified its stance on the transmission of election results, stating that the process will be conducted strictly in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, 2022, and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines.

Responding to questions from journalists today at the INEC headquarters, Prof. Amupitan reiterated that polling unit results will continue to be uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), enabling stakeholders and the public to view results in real time.

He noted that the Commission’s technological systems have been strengthened with multiple safeguards to ensure the integrity, authenticity and security of election results, adding that improvements have been made to address technical challenges experienced in previous elections.

The INEC Chairman stressed that while technology enhances transparency, the collation and declaration of results will continue to follow the procedure prescribed by law. He dismissed claims of uncertainty regarding the Commission’s position on result transmission and assured Nigerians of consistency and compliance with legal standards.

He urged political parties, civil society organisations, the media and the electorate to familiarise themselves with established procedures and engage constructively with the Commission.

Prof. Amupitan assured Nigerians that INEC remains fully prepared to deliver credible, transparent and inclusive elections in 2027, emphasising that the success of the process depends on collective responsibility and adherence to democratic values.
