Commodore Ajomabi Oride has officially handed over the command of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Victory to Commodore Shuaib Ahmed in a colourful ceremony held at the Base in Calabar, Cross River State. The event featured a farewell parade, formal handover of command, and a reception in honour of the outgoing Commander.


In his farewell address, Commodore Oride expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the successful completion of his tour of duty. He highlighted the key operational and administrative achievements recorded during his tenure, while commending officers and ratings of the Base for their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering support.


He also appreciated the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. Abbas, for the opportunity to serve in the capacity, as well as the Government of Cross River State and the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command for their cooperation and support throughout his period in office.



In his remarks after assuming command, Commodore Shuaib Ahmed pledged to consolidate on the gains made by his predecessor and further enhance the operational effectiveness of NNS Victory. He assured personnel and stakeholders of his commitment to strengthening maritime security, professionalism, and synergy with relevant agencies in safeguarding the nation’s maritime environment.


Representing the Executive Governor of Cross River State, the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, commended the outgoing Commander for his dedication to securing the maritime domain and contributing to the peace and stability of the state. He reaffirmed the state government’s continued support and collaboration with the Nigerian Navy.


The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, retired senior military officers, heads of government agencies and institutions, Service Commanders, as well as captains of industry and other distinguished guests.
