Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu has pledged strong operational readiness to secure Nigeria’s maritime domain as he officially assumed office as the 65th Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT.
The Change of Guard ceremony, held on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, at the Apapa naval base in Lagos, saw Commodore Adams-Aliu take over from Paul Ponfa Nimmyel, who commended officers, ratings, and stakeholders for their cooperation and support during his tenure.
In his farewell remarks, Rear Admiral Nimmyel expressed appreciation to personnel of the base and other security agencies for their collaboration in maintaining maritime stability within their area of responsibility. He also voiced confidence in his successor’s ability to build on existing gains.
In his acceptance speech, Commodore Adams-Aliu thanked the Chief of the Naval Staff, Idi Abass, for the trust reposed in him with the appointment. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the vision of the Naval leadership, describing it as focused on professionalism, agility, and operational excellence.
The new Commander pledged to strengthen maritime security operations, intensify the fight against smuggling and other maritime crimes, and deepen inter-agency collaboration to safeguard Nigeria’s economic waters.
He assured officers and ratings under his command of inclusive leadership, high morale, and strict adherence to operational standards, noting that readiness and discipline remain central to achieving mission success.
