Brigadier General Ismaila Sule has formally assumed duty as the 17th Director of the Nigerian Army Directorate of Recruitment, vowing to consolidate existing gains and further strengthen standards in the recruitment process.
The handover ceremony, held on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, marked his takeover from Brigadier General Chibueze Ogbuabo. This was contained in a press statement issued by Captain Abubakar Umar Hammanga, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Directorate of Recruitment.
In his inaugural address, Brigadier General Sule reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining ongoing reforms and enhancing operational efficiency within the Directorate. He emphasized the importance of delivering credible, transparent and merit-based recruitment into the Nigerian Army, in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy.
He charged officers and soldiers to remain steadfast, disciplined and resolute in upholding the highest professional standards throughout the recruitment process, noting that integrity and fairness must remain the guiding principles of the Directorate.
The new Director expressed profound appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the confidence reposed in him through the appointment. He also commended his predecessor, Brigadier General Ogbuabo, for his impactful leadership and contributions to the growth of the Directorate, wishing him success in his future assignments.
In his valedictory remarks, Brigadier General Ogbuabo congratulated his successor and urged personnel of the Directorate to accord him maximum cooperation and support. He stressed the need for sustained professionalism, integrity and commitment in advancing the Directorate’s critical role in manpower development for the Nigerian Army.
The ceremony featured the formal signing of handover notes, the symbolic lowering and hoisting of the Directorate’s flag, and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
