The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 16, Yenagoa, on Thursday, 6 February 2026, visited participants of the 15th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA) in Port Harcourt to boost their morale as they made final preparations for the competition.

This was disclosed in a press statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 16 Headquarters, Yenagoa, SP Gunn Ewhoborwo Emonena.

Addressing the athletes, the AIG said he was accompanied by the Commissioners of Police from Bayelsa and Rivers States to encourage, motivate, and pray for the team to excel and win medals at the games. He reassured the participants of his full support, reminding them that those who consistently win gold medals are not endowed with extraordinary abilities beyond dedication and hard work.

He further informed the athletes of arrangements already put in place to ensure their welfare and logistics, assuring them of attractive rewards for medal winners.

Members of the entourage included the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Iyama Daniel Edobor; the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju; the Chairman of the Zonal Sports Committee; and the respective Sports Officers of Zone 16, Bayelsa State, and Rivers State.

The AIG concluded his remarks by extending goodwill and support to Inspector Barisi Nwido and Police Constable Ned Precious, who sustained injuries during training. He assured them of the Zone’s commitment to covering their medical bills.

In his response, the Chairman of the Zonal Sports Committee expressed appreciation to the AIG and his entourage for the visit, noting that their presence would significantly boost the morale of the athletes and inspire them to achieve greater success at the forthcoming BIPOGA scheduled to take place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
