Shettima, Service Chiefs Hold Armed Forces Remembrance Day Juma’at at National Mosque Abuja

The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, on Friday, 9 January 2026, led the Service Chiefs, senior military officers and top government officials to the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day 2026 Juma’at Service held at the National Mosque.

Among the senior military leadership present were the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abbas, and a representative of the Chief of Air Staff.

The solemn Juma’at Service formed part of activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day. Special prayers were offered, alongside moments of reflection, in honour of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in the defence of the nation’s territorial integrity.

The annual remembrance underscores the bravery, loyalty and selfless sacrifices of officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces, while also serving as an avenue to celebrate the professionalism, resilience and dedication of serving personnel. Prayers were further offered for sustained peace, unity and security across the country.

Also in attendance were the Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Abdulazeez Musa Yar’Adua, heads of security agencies, Principal Staff Officers from Defence and Service Headquarters, as well as other senior government officials. Together, they paid tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes and reaffirmed Nigeria’s collective support for the Armed Forces.
