In furtherance of efforts to enhance airpower capabilities and strengthen joint force integration in the North East theatre of operations, the Commandant of the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC), Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Jibia, has undertaken an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, in Maiduguri, Borno State.
According to a press statement by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the visit was aimed at interfacing with Nigerian Air Force aircrew deployed under Operation HADIN KAI, as well as paying a courtesy call on the Theatre Commander following Air Vice Marshal Jibia’s assumption of duty as Commandant of the AWDC.
Speaking during the engagement, Air Vice Marshal Jibia explained that the visit aligns with the Chief of the Air Staff’s operational philosophy, which places emphasis on deliberate training and mission-oriented force development as critical pillars for strengthening airpower.
He stressed the importance of airmindedness in building a professional, combat-ready Nigerian Air Force, noting that intensified synergy, joint training and integrated operations remain essential to sustaining a formidable fighting force.
The AWDC Commandant commended the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, whom he described as a mentor, for his visionary leadership and the notable operational successes recorded by troops of Operation HADIN KAI.
He praised the gallantry, resilience and sacrifices of personnel in their efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the region, while assuring them of the continued support of the Armed Forces and well-meaning Nigerians. He further reaffirmed the commitment of the AWDC to supporting the operation and assured that issues raised during the operational briefing would receive due attention.
On arrival at the Theatre Command Headquarters, the AWDC Commandant was briefed on ongoing operations, with a view to making informed recommendations aimed at further enhancing operational effectiveness within the theatre.
In his remarks, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar congratulated Air Vice Marshal Jibia on his recent promotion and appointment as Commandant of the AWDC, describing him as a seasoned and highly experienced pilot whose expertise would further strengthen joint operations in the North East. He expressed appreciation for the visit, noting that Operation HADIN KAI stands to benefit significantly from the engagement and professional insights shared.
The Theatre Commander also reaffirmed the commitment of Operation HADIN KAI to key into AWDC’s innovative ideas on joint training and exercises to further improve operational effectiveness. He acknowledged the sacrifices and sustained commitment of the Nigerian Air Force in capacity development and the provision of critical operational support within the theatre.
The visit was attended by the Deputy Theatre Commander, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, Component Commanders, the Chief of Staff, Headquarters Theatre Command, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, as well as Principal Staff Officers of the Theatre Command. Highlights of the visit included operational briefings, interactive sessions, exchange of souvenirs and group photographs.
