The Force Commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Saidu Audu, has undertaken a strategic operational assessment visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), at the Maimalari Military Cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The visit, which took place on Tuesday, was aimed at strengthening coordination between the MNJTF and OPHK ahead of joint operations across the Lake Chad Basin. Major General Audu said the visit also provided an opportunity to formally introduce himself as the new MNJTF Force Commander based in N’Djamena.

Speaking during the visit, the MNJTF Commander stressed that sustained collaboration, vigilance, and continuous monitoring remain critical to stabilising the Lake Chad Basin, a shared security priority for all MNJTF member nations.

He commended the Theatre Commander, OPHK, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, for what he described as detailed, meticulous, and enlightening operational briefings.

Major General Audu emphasised the need to continually refine operational strategies, address emerging threats, and draw lessons from previous operations to avoid setbacks, noting that the engagement underscored growing regional cooperation and operational synergy.

Receiving the MNJTF Commander, Major General Abubakar described the visit as timely and highly significant, particularly given the current operational environment. He noted that the visit would further strengthen synergy between OPHK and the MNJTF in the fight against terrorism and other security challenges in the North-East and along the Lake Chad waterways.

During the engagement, the MNJTF Force Commander received comprehensive briefings on ongoing operations, including efforts to secure Lake Chad waterways, protect economic activities, and future operational projections.

As part of the visit, Major General Audu commissioned the newly completed Sector 3 Officers’ Transit Accommodation at the Maimalari Military Cantonment. The facility comprises eight fully furnished one-bedroom flats designed to accommodate officers on administrative and welfare leave, while also reducing unnecessary personnel movement.

At the commissioning ceremony, the Theatre Commander congratulated the Sector 3 OPHK/MNJTF Commander on the milestone achievement, describing it as a significant boost to officers’ welfare. He noted that the project aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s “Soldiers First” philosophy and urged commanders at all levels to prioritise troop welfare and emulate similar initiatives.

The visit featured operational briefings, interactive sessions, presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs, highlighting the strong collaboration between Operation Hadin Kai and the MNJTF in enhancing counter-terrorism effectiveness across the Lake Chad Basin.

The development was disclosed in a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer, Headquarters Theatre Command Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai.
