GOC 7 Division Lauds Engineer Troops for Driving Operational Successes in OPHK

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, has commended the unwavering professionalism and dedication of Engineer troops, describing their contributions as central to the Division’s sustained operational successes across the Theatre, particularly in neutralising the persistent threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs in operational areas. 

Brig. General Unachukwu said this when the Commander Corps of Engineers (CCE), Major General Shamsideen Shafaru, conducted an operational assessment visit to Headquarters 7 Division, Nigerian Army, under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), to evaluate the combat readiness, operational proficiency, and welfare of Engineer troops and platforms deployed in the Theatre.

The visit, which took place on Thursday, 29 January 2026, was aimed at ensuring sustained operational effectiveness and enhanced Engineer support to ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the North East

Speaking on the visit, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 7 Division Nigerian Army, Lt Col Haruna Mohammed Sani, said the assessment underscored the Nigerian Army’s emphasis on synergy between combat and combat-support elements to sustain operational momentum in the Theatre.

lauded the 47 Engineer Brigade for its unwavering support, stating that many of the Division’s operational achievements would not have been possible without the engineers’ expertise and commitment. The GOC further assured that the Division would continue to seek additional combat enablers to enhance mission accomplishment, adding that troops remained highly motivated and committed to duty.

Speaking during the visit, Major General Shafaru commended the Division for its accomplishments in the ongoing operations, noting that effective Engineer support remained critical to mission success.

“I am very delighted and proud of the accomplishments of 7 Division in the ongoing operations. As a Combat Support Corps, we must ensure that we play our role actively and proficiently, which can only be achieved through a holistic assessment of our platforms and troops’ readiness,” he said.

According to him, the assessment aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy, aimed at building a resilient, adaptable, and mission-ready Nigerian Army. He disclosed that additional Engineer platforms had been acquired, with some scheduled for deployment to Operation HADIN KAI, while assuring of sustained collaboration between the Division and the Corps of Engineers.

Lt Col Sani noted that the visit also provided an opportunity to review troop welfare and platform serviceability, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to ensuring optimal conditions for personnel engaged in Operation HADIN KAI.
