The FCT Police Command has arrested six suspected armed robbers believed to be responsible for a string of violent crimes targeting nightclubs and recreational centres across the Abuja metropolis.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrests followed actionable intelligence received on Friday, 17 January 2026, at about 5:45 p.m. Acting swiftly on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, psc., a coordinated intelligence-led operation was launched to dismantle the criminal gang.

The operation, overseen by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), DCP Aliyu Abubakar, was executed by operatives of the Scorpion Squad led by ACP Victor Godfrey. The team tracked the suspects to their hideout in Dakwa, Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory, where they were arrested while allegedly planning another attack.

The suspects arrested during the raid include:

  • Suleiman Magaji (25)
  • Abdullahi Abubakar (20)
  • Abubakar Shitu “M” (25)
  • Sani Ibrahim (17)
  • Rabiu Dahiru (19)
  • Ahmen Abdullahi (26)

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are linked to several armed robbery incidents within the FCT. Notably, they were allegedly involved in a recent robbery at Crystal Lounge, Wuse II, where a hotel guest was dispossessed of gold jewellery valued at approximately ₦15 million. The items were reportedly sold for ₦1.2 million.

During the operation, police recovered the following items:

  • One black toy gun
  • Local charms
  • Long and short knives
  • Forty-two (42) bags of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa

The suspects and recovered exhibits are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commending the officers for their professionalism and gallantry, CP Dantawaye also appreciated members of the public for providing timely and credible information that led to the successful arrests.

He urged residents of the FCT to remain vigilant and security-conscious, and to continue supporting police operations by promptly reporting suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.

“Together, we will continue to rid the Federal Capital Territory of criminal elements,” the Commissioner stated.
