The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commended troops of the 31 Artillery Brigade, Minna, for their doggedness, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to maintaining security within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility.

This was disclosed in a press statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.

The commendation was given on Thursday, 8 January 2026, when the COAS addressed troops at the frontline during an operational visit to the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility. General Shaibu praised the soldiers for their steadfast efforts in tackling security challenges and reassured them of his support in addressing key welfare concerns.

According to the Army Chief, he had been fully briefed on the challenges facing the troops, particularly in the areas of accommodation and critical support facilities. He assured them that concrete steps were being taken to improve their living conditions and overall welfare, with a view to enhancing morale and operational efficiency for both soldiers and their families.

General Shaibu also urged the troops to continue to discharge their duties with the highest level of professionalism, while respecting fundamental human rights in line with the provisions of the United Nations Charter.

Furthermore, the COAS charged the troops to remain firm, vigilant, and decisive in confronting terrorists operating within Shiroro, Rijau, and other parts of the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility.

He directed the immediate construction and renovation of accommodation and other essential facilities, stressing that improved infrastructure would further boost troop morale and operational effectiveness.

The visit underscores the Nigerian Army leadership’s commitment to frontline engagement, troop welfare, and sustained security operations across critical areas.
