The Anambra State Police Command has recorded significant security successes during the 2025 December festive (ember) season, following coordinated operations with other security agencies across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command maintained public safety, arrested suspects, and ensured the protection of lives and property throughout the period.
Arrest Over Cyber Bullying and Defamation
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) arrested a 42-year-old woman, Eucharia Ogochukwu, at about 3:20 pm on 31 December 2025 in Awka over alleged criminal conspiracy, cyber bullying, and defamation of character.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly engaged in coordinated online activities aimed at damaging the reputation of a very senior police officer who previously served in the Anambra State Police Command. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly made useful statements to investigators.
The Police said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals who may be linked to the incident.
Police Contain Tension During Town Union Elections
The Command also confirmed the successful containment of security challenges that arose during town union elections held in some communities across the state within the festive period.
Upon receiving reports of tension and disagreements, police operatives, in collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders, were swiftly deployed to affected areas. The timely intervention prevented a breakdown of law and order, ensured the safety of residents, and restored calm in the communities.
The Police Command commended community leaders, town union officials, and residents for their cooperation and restraint, which contributed significantly to the peaceful resolution of the disputes.
Residents who remain dissatisfied with election outcomes were advised to seek redress through lawful and established channels rather than resort to self-help.
Intensified Patrols Ensure Peaceful Festivities
SP Ikenga noted that joint security patrols were intensified across major highways, commercial centres, places of worship, and recreational areas throughout the festive season. These efforts, he said, resulted in a largely peaceful, calm, and hitch-free celebration across most parts of Anambra State.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining proactive policing and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure continued peace and security in the state.
