The Nigerian Army’s 8 Division and Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have strengthened inter-service cooperation with the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC) in a renewed push against terrorism and banditry in North-West Nigeria.
The partnership was sealed during a courtesy visit by the Commandant of AWDC, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Jibia, to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 OPFY, Major General BEMGBA Paul Koughna.
In a press statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 OPFY, Major General Koughna commended Air Vice Marshal Jibia for his distinguished career and exemplary leadership across key command appointments. He pledged the full support and cooperation of 8 Division, underscoring the importance of sustained dialogue and collaboration in tackling shared operational challenges.
The GOC reaffirmed his commitment to supporting AWDC’s initiatives, assuring proactive assistance to enhance joint operations, even ahead of formal requests.
In his remarks, Air Vice Marshal Jibia congratulated Major General Koughna on his appointment and expressed confidence in his capacity to drive positive change in the North-West security environment.
He noted that many Nigerian Air Force personnel are still not fully aware of AWDC’s core responsibilities, which include reviewing, developing and updating Nigerian Air Force doctrine, employment concepts, and teaching doctrine to enhance operational competence.
According to him, these responsibilities are critical to facilitating jointness through integrated exercises. He emphasized the need for increased sensitization, identification of operational gaps—particularly in air-drone integration—and the translation of doctrine into practical frontline applications.
Air Vice Marshal Jibia stressed that effective air-ground integration remains central to AWDC’s mission, ensuring seamless cooperation between air and surface forces for optimal air power delivery in ongoing operations.
The visit concluded with the exchange of souvenirs and group photographs, symbolizing a strengthened partnership between the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force in the collective fight against terrorism and banditry in the North-West.
