Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Joint Task Force North West, have continued to maintain sustained pressure on terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area, recording notable operational gains during coordinated offensives conducted between 21 and 22 January 2026.
In a press statement issued on 22 January 2026, the Media Information Officer, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Captain David Adewusi, disclosed that troops of 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, supported by Department of State Services (DSS) assets, engaged terrorists during a fighting patrol in Gundumi Village, Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to the statement, the troops successfully neutralised one terrorist during the encounter, while others fled into the forest with gunshot wounds. Items recovered at the scene included six AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles.
Captain Adewusi further revealed that troops of 1 Brigade, in conjunction with Headquarters Joint Task Force OPFY Mobile Strike Team, acted swiftly on credible intelligence indicating that injured terrorists were receiving treatment within the Bingi Forest.
The operation led to the discovery and destruction of a makeshift medical facility used by the terrorists, delivering a significant blow to their support and logistics network.
The sustained successes recorded during the operations underscore the unwavering determination, operational responsiveness, and professionalism of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in degrading terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace and security across the North West region.
