Police Leadership Boost As IGP Decorates Newly Promoted Senior Officers 1 DIG, 7 AIGs, 13 CPs with New Ranks

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has decorated newly promoted senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, charging them to uphold ethical, results-driven leadership in the discharge of their duties. 

The decoration ceremony took place on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the Peacekeeping Hall of the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

At the event, one Assistant Inspector-General of Police was elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police, seven Commissioners of Police were promoted to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, while thirteen Deputy Commissioners of Police were decorated with the rank of substantive Commissioners of Police.

The Inspector-General noted that the promotions followed a rigorous and transparent process conducted by the Police Service Commission, which saw a total of one thousand, two hundred and ten officers promoted nationwide.

Among those decorated were DIG Mohammed Usaini Gumel; seven newly promoted Assistant Inspectors-General of Police; and thirteen Commissioners of Police from various commands and formations across the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, the IGP described the promotions as a clear demonstration of institutional trust and confidence in the leadership capacity and readiness of the officers for higher responsibilities. He commended the Police Service Commission for its diligence and transparency in the promotion exercise.

The IGP also acknowledged the sacrifices and support of the officers’ families, stressing that their contributions remain critical to the success and stability of the Nigeria Police Force.

He charged the newly promoted senior officers to justify their elevation by embracing ethical conduct, professionalism, and results-oriented leadership that will enhance operational effectiveness and strengthen public confidence in the Police.

The ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including the Governors of Delta and Jigawa States, members of the National Assembly, senior government officials, serving and retired police officers, as well as families and well-wishers of the promoted officers.

The event marked a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership, morale, and institutional integrity within the Nigeria Police Force.
