The Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, on Thursday joined senior military commanders and community leaders at Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area, to celebrate Christmas with troops of the Nigerian Army during the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) Christmas Barbecue.
The event brought together the Corps Commander Infantry, Major General Mutkut; the Commander, Sector 3 Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Suleiman Tilawan; the Commander, 19 Brigade; as well as members of the Governor’s entourage, including local government chairmen and state commissioners.
Held at the 68 Battalion location in Mallam Fatori, the Christmas barbecue was organised under the directive of the Chief of Army Staff as part of ongoing efforts to boost troop morale, strengthen civil-military relations, and demonstrate appreciation for soldiers deployed on the frontlines during the festive season.
Governor Zulum commended the resilience, courage, and professionalism of the troops, noting that their sacrifices have been critical to sustaining peace and restoring stability across Borno State and the wider North-East region. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Borno State Government to continue supporting the Armed Forces through logistics, welfare interventions, and cooperation with security agencies.
“This celebration is a reminder that our troops are not alone. The people of Borno State stand firmly with you, grateful for your service and sacrifice,” the Governor said.
In their remarks, senior military commanders praised the unwavering support of the Borno State Government and local communities, stressing that such gestures significantly enhance morale and operational effectiveness. They reiterated the Army’s determination to sustain pressure on terrorist elements and ensure the safety of civilians, particularly in border communities like Mallam Fatori.
The occasion featured interactions between the troops and visiting dignitaries, shared meals, and words of encouragement, underscoring the spirit of unity, solidarity, and appreciation that defines the Christmas season.Mallam Fatori, a strategic border town, continues to play a key role in counter-insurgency operations, and the presence of top government and military leaders at the celebration highlighted the importance attached to the welfare of troops serving in challenging operational environments.
