The Delta State Police Command has announced a string of successes in its ongoing efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety in the state. According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the command has recorded a number of significant achievements in its fight against kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult-related activities.
In one operation, a suspected kidnapper was killed and an AK-47 rifle was recovered after a shootout with police operatives in Obiaruku forest. The police had received intelligence that suspected kidnappers were mobilizing to carry out an attack, and the operatives moved swiftly to prevent the crime. The suspect was killed, and one AK-47 rifle with 42 rounds of live ammunition, nine mobile phones, and charms were recovered
In another operation, three suspected armed robbers/cultists were arrested, and a locally made shotgun, a locally fabricated Beretta pistol, and ammunition were recovered. The police also recovered two tricycles that had been stolen.
Additionally, a suspect was arrested with a locally fabricated pistol and three live cartridges during a stop-and-search operation along the Asaba-Benin Expressway.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has commended the operatives for their gallantry and appreciated stakeholders for trusting the police with information in crime fighting.
The suspects are in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
