The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has assured the Director General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Professor Ayo Omotayo, of enhanced collaboration between the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and the nation’s foremost policy institution.
General Oluyede gave the assurance on Thursday, 18 December 2025, when the Director General paid him a courtesy visit at the Defence Headquarters.
In a press statement, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, disclosed that the CDS commended NIPSS for its invaluable contributions to national development through the training of strategic-level manpower and the conduct of research aimed at formulating transformational policies for Nigeria.
He expressed satisfaction with the Institute’s renewed focus on research and development, noting that such efforts are critically needed at this pivotal time in the nation’s history.
The CDS further expressed the readiness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to partner with NIPSS in developing pragmatic solutions to the country’s contemporary security and developmental challenges.
General Oluyede, who is an alumnus of NIPSS and a member of the Institute’s Board of Governors, reiterated the unwavering support of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the Institute in all spheres, to enable it effectively discharge its mandate.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director General of NIPSS, Professor Ayo Omotayo, appreciated the CDS and the Armed Forces of Nigeria for their sacrifices and commitment to keeping Nigeria safe and united.
He informed the CDS of an ongoing collaborative project between NIPSS and the Nigerian Army aimed at developing innovative solutions to national challenges, and appealed for increased support from the Armed Forces to ensure the successful completion of the initiative.
Professor Omotayo also briefed the CDS on plans to reposition NIPSS as an African think-tank hub for the incubation and development of transformational ideas. He therefore sought the support of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to fully realise this vision. Additionally, the Director General called for sustained support to further enhance the teaching and learning environment at the Institute.
