The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has dismissed a widely circulated online threat message announcing a purported “sit-at-home” order in the South East for Thursday, 20 November 2025. The Army described the message as fake, baseless, and crafted by criminal elements seeking to create fear and disrupt social and economic activities in the region.
In a statement by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, the Division noted that the threat was part of a desperate attempt to undermine government authority and the significant achievements of security forces, who have successfully ended unlawful sit-at-home enforcements by proscribed groups.
Lieutenant Colonel Ayeni assured residents that the region remains secure, adding that the Army, in collaboration with the Nigerian Police and other security agencies, has put in place a comprehensive security plan to guarantee the safety of lives, property, and critical infrastructure. Security forces, he said, are strategically deployed to deter any acts of violence or sabotage.
He emphasized that freedom of movement is fully protected and encouraged residents to go about their normal activities without fear. According to the statement, peaceful coexistence and sustainable economic growth remain top priorities, and no criminal directive will be allowed to disrupt public order.
The Army further urged the public to ignore fear-inducing messages circulated by individuals whose aim is to cause panic for selfish interests. Citizens were encouraged to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security efforts. “If you see something, say something,” the statement advised.
The Division also warned criminal elements that any attempt to enforce illegal orders or take the law into their own hands will attract decisive action in accordance with the law, reaffirming its resolve to maintain peace and unity across the South East.
