The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, mnips, PhD, has once again emphasized that policing is a collective responsibility between the police and the populace. The CP made this known through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, who represented him at a high-level roundtable discussion held today, 20 November 2025, at the IPBS Boardroom, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The event, themed “The Nigerian Police and the Challenges of Policing at the Sub-National Level: Is State Police a Viable Option?”, was organized by the Institute for Peace, Security and Development Studies in collaboration with the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP).
It brought together key stakeholders including the Special Adviser on Security to the Anambra State Governor, Air Vice Marshal Chiobi (Rtd), HRH Igwe P. O. Omachonu, Prof. Amaka Joe-Iguh, academics, civil society actors, security experts, and media representatives.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the CP underscored that effective policing thrives on trust, cooperation, and active community participation.
He noted that ensuring security in Anambra requires “unity of purpose,” stressing that residents must demonstrate greater willingness to collaborate with the Police for enhanced safety and quality service delivery.
According to the CP, collaborative engagement remains central to combating emerging security threats across the state. He encouraged the public to support law enforcement initiatives, share credible information, and take ownership of community safety efforts.
Reassuring the public, the Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community-police partnerships and enhancing the security architecture of the state. The Command pledged continuous engagement with stakeholders to promote peaceful coexistence and ensure a safer environment for all.
