The Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have set up a high-powered Joint Ad-hoc Committee to begin the immediate recruitment of 30,000 new police personnel, in line with the recent presidential directive aimed at strengthening national security.
The committee was formally inaugurated on Tuesday, November 26, 2025, by the PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja. The inauguration follows President Bola Tinubu’s mandate to expand the nation’s policing capacity and improve security across the country.
According to the PSC, the committee’s core responsibility is to design and oversee a seamless, transparent, and merit-driven recruitment process. The joint body is expected to collaborate closely on strategies that will ensure the exercise is conducted with integrity and in accordance with established standards.
Representing the PSC Chairman at the event, DIG (Bar) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), fdc, described the collaboration between both institutions as essential to the success of the recruitment exercise. He reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to uphold fairness and due process throughout the exercise.
Similarly, the Inspector-General of Police, represented by CP Edwin Eloho of the Department of Training and Development, Force Headquarters, stressed the critical role the recruitment will play in strengthening the operational capacity of the police. He assured the PSC of the NPF’s full cooperation toward achieving the national objective within the stipulated timeline.
The inauguration of the committee marks a significant step in the Federal Government’s broader effort to improve the police-to-citizen ratio and respond more effectively to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
The Police Service Commission is the federal body responsible for appointing, promoting, disciplining, and dismissing officers of the Nigeria Police Force, except for the Inspector-General of Police. The Nigeria Police Force serves as the country’s primary law enforcement agency, mandated to prevent and detect crime, protect lives and property, and uphold public safety and order.
