Operational Efficiency: Theatre Commander Visits Sector 1, Reiterates Commitment to Ending Banditry

The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), Major General Warrah Bello Idris, has called for renewed operational momentum to completely eradicate banditry and terrorism across the North West region and Nigeria at large.

He made the call during his maiden operational and familiarization visit to Headquarters Sector 1 JTF NW OPFY at the Headquarters of 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, on Tuesday, 12 November 2025. The Theatre Commander was warmly received by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander Sector 1 OPFY, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase.

According to a statement by Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Wase briefed the Theatre Commander on the sector’s recent operational achievements, challenges, and ongoing strategies employed to sustain pressure on terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements.

In his remarks, Major General Idris commended the troops for their professionalism, dedication, and resilience. He noted the significant reduction in bandit and terrorist activities within the sector, attributing the success to effective kinetic operations and strong interagency collaboration.

He reiterated that the overarching objective of Operation FANSAN YAMMA is not merely to suppress criminality but to completely eliminate banditry and terrorism from the region. He urged troops to remain vigilant, disciplined, and mission-focused while deepening synergy with other security agencies to secure enduring peace and stability.

Major General Idris also warned against operational lapses that could lead to the loss of personnel or military assets. He assured the troops that efforts are underway to provide additional combat enablers and logistics to enhance efficiency in the field.

Highlights of the visit included interactions with officers and soldiers, a tour of Sub-Sectors, including the Air Component of OPFY at the Air Training Command in Kaduna, and a courtesy call on the Governor of Niger State, His Excellency Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago. Discussions during the visit centred on strengthening joint operations and addressing key security concerns in the region.
