The Nigeria Police Force has arrested and repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish fugitive, Acar Huseyin, who fled to Nigeria to evade a lengthy prison sentence for fraud.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the operation was carried out by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, in response to a Red Notice issued by INTERPOL NCB Ankara in July 2025. The notice sought the immediate location and arrest of Huseyin, who had escaped Turkey shortly after his conviction.
Huseyin was earlier sentenced to 14 years, 8 months, and 10 days by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court for fraud-related offences. After fleeing Turkey, he travelled through parts of the Middle East before entering Nigeria, where he attempted to remain hidden.
Acting on the Red Notice, INTERPOL NCB Abuja launched discreet, intelligence-driven operations that led to Huseyin’s arrest in Abuja. Following the completion of required documentation and collaboration with international law enforcement partners, he has now been successfully repatriated to Istanbul to commence his sentence.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the INTERPOL unit for its professionalism and efficiency. He reiterated that Nigeria will not be a safe haven for any fugitive or escaped convict, emphasising the Force’s commitment to fulfilling international obligations and strengthening global police cooperation.
The IGP also restated the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to support coordinated efforts against transnational crime and uphold the integrity of cross-border law enforcement.
