His Royal Majesty, Sir Bennet Izuchukwu Emeka Okebo II, has commended the synergy between the police and local vigilante outfits in restoring peace and order in the state, renewed the call for the creation of state police, arguing that state-based security structures would better address local security challenges.
Speaking with newsmen in Awka, the traditional ruler said praised the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, for his proactive leadership and results-driven approach.
“He is a no-nonsense officer. Once you are a criminal, he will go for you. Anambra people have confidence in him because he is doing a great job,” he said.
He added that “Governor Soludo introduced ‘Operation Doo Akpu’ and the Anambra Vigilante Group, which have helped tremendously. About eight local government areas were once under siege, but today people can move freely. That’s why the election was so peaceful,” he noted.
Sir Okebo II also renewed the call for the creation of state police, arguing that state-based security structures would better address local security challenges.
He further stressed that lasting peace in Nigeria can only be achieved through fairness and inclusion, particularly in allowing the Southeast to produce the nation’s president.
“You cannot beat a child and ask him not to cry. The Igbos are feeling marginalized because they have never produced a president. It’s time to allow the Southeast to take its turn for equity and justice to prevail,” the monarch declared
