The Delta State Police Command has dismissed as false the widespread rumour alleging that bandits invaded Girls’ Secondary School, Utagba-Ogbe, Kwale, on Monday, November 24, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command clarified that the alarm, which caused panic among students and parents, was triggered by misinformation circulated within the school and amplified by unverified online reports claiming gunshots and community unrest.
Acting swiftly on the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, deployed the Divisional Crime Officer, SP Udofia Kufre, and a patrol team to the school for immediate verification. After speaking with the Vice Principal and the security personnel on duty, the police confirmed that no attack took place and that the situation remained calm.
As part of precautionary measures, adjoining schools within the Kwale area were visited and found to be safe, with academic activities ongoing without disturbance.
The Command urged parents to remain calm, noting that normalcy has been fully restored. CP Abaniwonda cautioned against spreading unverified information capable of inciting fear and disrupting school activities. He also encouraged school management to improve internal communication, report suspicious activities promptly, and collaborate closely with security agencies to enhance vigilance around learning environments.
The Delta State Police Command reassured residents of its readiness to respond swiftly to credible threats and maintain the safety of all educational institutions across the state.
