Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), in a joint operation with personnel of the Nigeria Police, have rescued six kidnapped victims, including a child, during a clearance operation in Taraba State under Operation LAFIYA NAKOWA.

The rescue operation, which took place in the early hours of 2 October 2025, followed a swift response to credible intelligence after armed kidnappers intercepted a Toyota Carina II vehicle travelling from Katsina-Ala in Benue State. The criminals had forced the vehicle to a halt around an abandoned checkpoint and whisked the occupants into the bush.

According to the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, troops and Police personnel immediately mobilized and conducted an extensive search of the area, leading to the successful rescue of all six abducted passengers.

The rescued victims were identified as Mr. Terna Gbaya (43 years), Mr. Musa Adamu (55 years), Mrs. Rose Sor (35 years), Mrs. Lydia Vyiashima (40 years), Mrs. Comfort Iyofar (60 years), and a baby. All victims have since been reunited with their families.

Meanwhile, security forces have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing kidnappers and rescue any other victims who may still be held captive.

The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the swift response and strong synergy between the Army and the Police, noting that the success reflects the effectiveness of ongoing joint security operations in Taraba State.

He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid military operations.
