The Nigerian Army (NA) has taken a significant step toward improving education and access to clean water in Argungu community, Kebbi State, with the renovation of a state-of-the-art block of three classrooms at Dankoji Nizamiyya Primary School, Kanta Road, Yardole Area, and the donation of four boreholes to surrounding communities.
In a statement, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, said the intervention forms part of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Intervention Project, designed to promote community development beyond the Army’s traditional security role.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Special Guest of Honour and Emir of Argungu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera, underscored the transformative power of education, noting that “security is not confined to the battlefield; it encompasses the education, welfare, and overall progress of communities.” He commended the Army for its unwavering commitment to building a safer and more prosperous society.
Project facilitator, Major General Ismaila Babangida Abubakar, an indigene of Argungu, described the initiative as a personal contribution to the growth of his community. He handed over the facilities to community leaders, teachers, and residents, urging them to ensure proper maintenance, as the responsibility rests on all stakeholders.
He noted that the intervention aligns with the COAS’s Command Philosophy to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-motivated force capable of fulfilling its constitutional duties, adding that “by investing in community well-being, the Army is actively contributing to a more secure and prosperous future for all Nigerians.”
Earlier, Project Supervisor Mr. Magaji Lawal explained that the school block had been abandoned and in disrepair before the COAS approved its full renovation.
The project covered the complete remodeling of three classrooms, repair of 46 pupils’ chairs and tables, provision of teachers’ furniture, and construction of four boreholes across.
